Remember when I said in my introduction post that I deeply disliked idealists who think so optimistically about the future when we all know it’s so inevitably doomed? Yeah, well, to tell you the truth, I’ve once been that idealist myself. I mean, really, what’s wrong with a little hope, yeah? The thing is, I think once you see this hope mirrored in other people, it’s just.. it hits you. Reality really slaps you back and shows you how much you don’t deserve this redemption or this hope. It shows you how pathetic mankind really is.
The sort of “other” people I’m talking about are everywhere. It’s me, you, that taxi driver, the old woman in the bus, the CEO of some company or another, your friend. We who dare to hope but not believe all the way through. We the weak who can’t stand up for the betterment of our world. We, who are all talk, but no action. We who doubt, we who fear and we who are cowardly and insecure.
It pisses me off. People should stop spouting idealistic nonsense if they can’t back it up. If they won’t waver in hypocrisy and pull all the way through. If you can’t do that, then don’t make me hope with you. I’ve dropped all pretense of caring for something that doesn’t exist.
So get off my back. I don’t need a friend like you.
